How switch scores work

The number on a switch card runs from 0 to 100. Materials and finish are ranked among switches with a similar feel, then a popularity bonus of up to 8 points is added.

Keyboard scores are explained on their own page.

  • Materials70%

Stem material, with UPE, PTFE, UHMWPE, and POK ahead of POM. POK and POM housings add points. Nylon and polycarbonate housings do not, because that choice changes the sound.

  • Finish30%

Factory lubed, dust proof, and water resistant.

Feel groups

Linear, tactile, and clicky switches are ranked inside a force band. 60% of each category is that rank. 40% is a comparison against every switch in the catalog. The points are then placed on a scale from 40 to 100.

  • Light

    Under 45g

  • Medium

    45g to 59g

  • Heavy

    60g and up

Silent, magnetic, and low-profile switches skip the force bands and are compared only with other switches of that kind.

FAQ

Switch score questions.

Each category is ranked inside a feel group, then blended with a comparison against the whole catalog. A factory-lubed UPE linear can land above a plain POM linear that costs more.

Force and actuation type describe the feel, so they decide the group instead of the points. Silent, magnetic, and low-profile switches are scored only against themselves for the same reason. Sound, long pole, and double-stage springs stay off the number.

It is the overall score, rounded to a whole number. On a desktop, hover the badge for materials and finish to one decimal, plus the group. The badge is hidden when the overall score is under 60. In the table, the score column follows the same cutoff.
