What makes the Royal Kludge C87 different from traditional mechanical keyboards?

The Royal Kludge C87 stands out with its Hall Effect magnetic switches, allowing for adjustable actuation points. This means you can fine-tune each key’s sensitivity to match your typing or gaming style, unlike fixed-actuation mechanical switches.

Can I customize the actuation distance on this keyboard?

Yes, the C87 allows you to adjust the actuation point for each key anywhere from 0.01mm to 3.5mm using its web-based driver. This gives you incredible flexibility, whether you want lightning-fast response for gaming or a deeper press for typing accuracy.

How does the rapid trigger technology benefit gamers?

Rapid trigger technology on the Royal Kludge C87 enables keys to reset and activate instantly with even the smallest movement. This is ideal for fast-paced games, as it allows for quicker repeated inputs and more precise control during intense gameplay sessions.

What kind of keycaps does the C87 use?

The C87 comes equipped with Cherry profile PBT keycaps, known for their durability and comfortable sculpted shape. PBT material resists shine and wear, ensuring the legends stay crisp and the typing feel remains consistent over time.

Is the keyboard suitable for both typing and gaming?

Absolutely! Its adjustable actuation, rapid trigger feature, and high polling rate make it excellent for gaming, while the solid build, sound dampening, and quality keycaps provide a comfortable and quiet typing experience.

How does the 8K Hz polling rate impact performance?

With an 8,000 Hz polling rate, the C87 sends input data to your computer eight times faster than standard keyboards. This ultra-low latency ensures your keystrokes are registered instantly, which is especially beneficial for competitive gaming.

Does the Royal Kludge C87 support RGB lighting customization?

Yes, it features 21 million color options and multiple lighting effects. You can personalize the RGB lighting to match your setup or mood, all controlled via the web-based driver.

Is the C87 noisy during use?

Thanks to its three-layer sound dampening design, the keyboard offers a quieter typing experience compared to many mechanical keyboards. This makes it suitable for shared spaces or late-night gaming.

What form factor is the C87?

The C87 is an 80% tenkeyless (TKL) keyboard, meaning it has 87 keys and omits the number pad. This compact layout saves desk space while retaining dedicated function keys and arrows for productivity.

Do I need to install any software to use all the features?

To unlock advanced features like actuation customization and RGB effects, you’ll use a web-based driver. This eliminates the need for bulky software installations and allows for settings adjustments directly from your browser.

Product Description

The Royal Kludge C87 is a wired, tenkeyless mechanical keyboard with 87 keys, designed for users who want a compact layout with reliable key actuation and customizable typing feel. It uses Hall Effect magnetic switches, which offer contactless key detection for durability and consistent performance. This keyboard suits typists and gamers who prefer wired connections and seek adjustable actuation points for tailored responsiveness.

Key Features

Hall Effect magnetic switches provide longer lifespan and consistent key registration by using magnetic sensing instead of physical contact.
Adjustable actuation distance from 0.01 to 3.5mm allows users to fine-tune key sensitivity for faster or more deliberate key presses.
Rapid Trigger Technology supports faster input recognition, beneficial for gaming or fast typing.
High polling rate of 8K Hz reduces input delay, improving responsiveness in competitive scenarios.
Supports web-based driver software for customizing key functions and RGB lighting without installing desktop applications.
21 million RGB color options enable extensive lighting customization to match user preferences or setups.
Three-layer sound dampening reduces typing noise, making it more suitable for shared or quiet environments.

Typing Experience

The Cherry profile PBT keycaps provide a durable, textured surface that resists shine and wear. The Hall Effect switches deliver a smooth, consistent feel without physical contact, which may result in a quieter and more stable typing experience. Sound dampening layers help minimize key noise, though the overall sound level depends on user typing style.

Connectivity

This keyboard connects via a wired USB interface only, ensuring stable and low-latency input. It lacks wireless options, so it is less suited for users needing cable-free setups or mobile use.

Trade-offs

No wireless connectivity limits flexibility in device placement and portability.
Magnetic Hall Effect switches are less common, which may affect availability of replacement parts or familiarity for users accustomed to traditional mechanical switches.
The keyboard layout is fixed at 87 keys, so users requiring a numeric keypad or smaller layouts will need alternatives.
