Product Description

The KBDFans Enso-E is a custom split ergonomic keyboard inspired by Japanese zen gardens, designed for users who want a compact HHKB layout with enhanced thumb comfort and flexible build options. It suits enthusiasts who value a unique aesthetic combined with modular mounting and hybrid switch support. This board is good if you want a tactile, adjustable typing experience with a focus on ergonomics and build customization.

Key Features

  • Split ergonomic layout with gently inward-curving rows improves hand positioning and reduces strain.
  • Exploded bottom row creates a more comfortable thumb resting area, aiding long typing sessions.
  • Hybrid PCB supports both Electro-Capacitive (EC) and Cherry MX switches, allowing varied switch choices.
  • Isolated spacebar "islands" reduce plate vibration and support multiple spacebar layouts for personal preference.
  • Top-down build design simplifies assembly and maintenance by installing all screws from above.

Build Quality

  • Cases use aluminum or titanium bodies combined with transparent polycarbonate top shells for a multi-material feel.
  • Custom-molded silicone gaskets and tabs provide adjustable mounting firmness, from firm to medium-soft with bounce.
  • Magnetic accent borders and engraved zen garden motifs add visual detail without affecting function.
  • Includes multiple weight options to adjust typing stability and board heft.

Typing Experience

  • Silicone gasket socks cushion the bottom mount, balancing firmness and vibration dampening.
  • Isolated spacebar sections reduce unwanted noise and vibration during use.
  • Exploded bottom row layout supports ergonomic thumb placement, potentially reducing fatigue.

Compatibility and Customization

  • Supports HHKB-style layouts with flexible spacebar configurations (3u or 2u + 1u).
  • Compatible with both EC and MX switches, but does not include stabilizers, switches, or keycaps.
  • Uses USB connection with pogo-pin daughterboard for modular connectivity.

Trade-offs

  • Does not include keycaps, stabilizers, or switches, requiring additional purchases to complete the build.
  • Split ergonomic layout may have a learning curve for users accustomed to standard keyboards.
  • Customization and assembly options add complexity, which may not suit users seeking a plug-and-play solution.
  • Unknown wireless support; connectivity is wired only.
