What makes the Keebz N Cables OGR2 unique compared to other custom keyboards?

The OGR2 stands out with its vintage-inspired design, drawing from classic Cherry keyboards of the 80s and 90s. Its robust 6063 aluminum construction and hefty 2.9kg unbuilt weight give it a premium, substantial feel on your desk. The modular case supports both 65% and FRL TKL layouts, making it versatile for different preferences.

Can I switch between 65% and FRL TKL layouts easily?

Yes! The OGR2 is designed with modularity in mind. Both the 65% and FRL TKL modules are fully compatible within the same case. This lets you swap layouts without needing a whole new keyboard, offering flexibility for changing tastes or needs.

What kind of typing experience does the OGR2 offer?

Typing on the OGR2 feels both comfortable and satisfying, thanks to its 10° typing angle and leaf-spring plate mounting. The combination of sandwiched and top-mounted leaf-spring plates provides a soft, responsive feel—ideal for long typing sessions or gaming marathons.

Is the OGR2 compatible with VIA and QMK?

Absolutely! The OGR2 includes USB-C PCBs that support both QMK and VIA, making it easy to remap keys, set up macros, and customize your keyboard’s functionality to your exact preferences.

What materials are used in the OGR2's construction?

Every major part of the OGR2, including the top case, bottom case, accent mid-piece, and badge, is crafted from high-quality 6063 aluminum. The default plate material is carbon fiber, chosen for its balance of strength and flexibility.

How does the cable connection work on the OGR2?

You have a choice between using an 'integrated' cable connection or a daughterboard setup. This flexibility allows you to tailor the build to your preferred cable routing and aesthetics.

Is the OGR2 suitable for heavy typists or desk-shakers?

Definitely! With its substantial 2.9kg unbuilt weight and sturdy aluminum build, the OGR2 stays firmly in place even during intense typing sessions. The 21.5mm front height with bumpons also ensures a comfortable typing posture.

Does the OGR2 include any nods to vintage keyboards?

Yes—the OGR2 features a period-authentic product sticker and design elements inspired by classic Cherry models like the G80-0832 and G81-3077. It’s a modern keyboard with a nostalgic twist for enthusiasts who appreciate retro aesthetics.

What comes in the box with the OGR2?

Inside the box, you’ll find everything needed for a premium build: aluminum top and bottom cases, an accent mid-piece, aluminum badge, carbon fiber plate, PCB, fly daughterboard, necessary cables, split cable grommet, stickers, AKB feet, screws and hardware, a microfiber cloth, and a foam carry case.

Who would enjoy the OGR2 the most?

This keyboard is perfect for enthusiasts who value premium materials, modularity, and a nod to vintage design. If you love customizing your typing experience and appreciate a keyboard that’s both functional and a conversation starter, the OGR2 is a fantastic choice.

Product Description

The CannonKeys OGR2 is a 65% mechanical keyboard designed for users who appreciate vintage Cherry keyboard aesthetics and solid build quality. It suits hobbyists and typists who want a robust, aluminum keyboard with flexible layout options and customizable firmware. Its design focuses on a classic typing angle and modularity, making it a good fit for those who value both form and function in a compact layout.

Key Features

Modular design supports both 65% and FRL TKL layouts within the same case, offering layout flexibility without needing multiple keyboards.
Leaf-spring plate with sandwiched and top-mounted construction provides a distinct typing feel influenced by vintage Cherry boards.
Choice between integrated cable or daughterboard connection allows customization of cable routing and maintenance.
QMK and VIA firmware support enables extensive key remapping and macro programming for personalized workflows.

Build Quality

Full 6063 aluminum case and accent mid-piece deliver a heavy, sturdy typing platform weighing 2.9kg unassembled, which reduces flex and enhances durability.
Carbon fiber plate (for MX switches) adds rigidity and a unique typing response compared to standard metal plates.
10° typing angle reflects classic ergonomic design, promoting comfortable hand positioning during extended use.

Typing Experience

The leaf-spring plate design offers a tactile, vintage-inspired feel that differs from typical plate-mounted boards, appealing to users seeking a specific mechanical feedback.
Effective front height of 21.5mm with feet provides a low profile that can reduce wrist strain.
Acoustic properties are influenced by the solid aluminum case and carbon fiber plate, resulting in a firm, muted sound signature.

Compatibility

Supports Cherry MX-style switches via the leaf-spring plate, compatible with a wide range of mechanical switches.
Firmware compatibility with QMK and VIA allows use across multiple operating systems with customizable layouts.

Trade-offs

The keyboard’s weight and solid aluminum construction make it less portable and more suited for stationary use.
Limited to wired USB-C connection; no wireless options are available.
Layout options are confined to 65% and FRL TKL modules, which may not suit users needing full-size or other compact layouts.
