Product Description

The grid 100 Encoder & Joystick Modules are input devices designed for users who want precise control and customizable input on the grid 100 keyboard system. These modules suit hobbyists and professionals who need fast, tactile rotary input or analog joystick control for tasks like editing, gaming, or creative workflows. They offer modularity with interchangeable caps and adjustable features to fit different preferences.

Key Features

  • The Encoder module provides a 20-step rotary input with a pushable button and a standalone processor that speeds up signal response, making rotation inputs register about five times faster than key presses.
  • It comes in two versions: detented (with tactile steps) for precise control, and smooth (continuous rotation with friction) better suited for volume or scrolling adjustments.
  • The Joystick module uses the same analog unit as the Xbox Elite Controller, offering tension adjustment for a customizable feel and a pushable stick for additional input.
  • Both modules include ARGB LED rings with 20 LEDs, adjustable via QMK firmware through VIA or Vial software, allowing visual feedback and lighting customization.
  • Caps for both modules are interchangeable and magnetic or screw-on, enabling user customization of appearance and grip.

Compatibility

  • Joystick module supports PC, Mac, iOS, iPadOS, and Android devices but is not compatible with Sony PlayStation, Microsoft Xbox, or Nintendo Switch.
  • Only one Joystick module can be used per grid 100 configuration due to software limitations.

Trade-offs

  • Joystick drifting is an inherent issue with analog sticks, though replacement PCBs and joystick units are available separately.
  • The thicker PCB design for LED brightness can complicate installation and vendor assembly.
  • The connector between the core board and modules is rated for about 200 swaps, which may limit frequent module changes over time.
