Product Description

The PMOKEY Aurora 80 is a tenkeyless mechanical keyboard suited for users who want versatile connectivity and extensive customization. It fits well for hobbyists who value programmability and switch swapping, and for users needing wireless options alongside wired use. Its sound absorption features and multiple switch types offer a balance between typing feel and noise control.

Key Features

Three connection modes: wired USB-C, Bluetooth, and 2.4 GHz wireless, allowing flexible use across devices and environments.
Fully programmable via QMK, VIA, or PMOHUB software, enabling deep key remapping and macro customization.
Hotswap PCB supports easy switch replacement without soldering, accommodating different switch preferences over time.
South-facing RGB backlighting improves compatibility with keycap profiles and supports customizable lighting effects.
Large 8000mAh battery supports extended wireless use, though exact battery life is unknown.

Build Quality

CNC machined aluminum case offers a solid and durable frame with two mounting options for varied typing feel.
FR4 plate contributes to a stable typing surface while keeping the keyboard lightweight.
Sound absorption layers including multiple foam types and PET film reduce typing noise and vibration.
Ultra editions feature frosted translucent PC keycaps for light diffusion, while Pro editions use opaque keycaps for a traditional look.

Typing Experience

Switch options include linear and tactile variants with actuation forces ranging from 42g to 56g, catering to different typing preferences.
South-facing switch orientation helps reduce keycap interference and improves backlighting consistency.
Sound dampening materials help minimize acoustic feedback, making it suitable for quieter environments.

Compatibility and Layout

ANSI physical layout with US QWERTY logical layout suits standard key arrangements common in North America.
Compatible with Windows and Mac operating systems, supporting broad user bases.
Programmable firmware support allows customization beyond default layouts.

Trade-offs

Tenkeyless layout omits a dedicated number pad, which may be less ideal for users needing frequent numeric input.
Opaque keycaps on Pro editions reduce RGB lighting effects compared to Ultra editions.
Battery life details are not specified, so wireless endurance is uncertain.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

There are several switch options designed for different typing experiences. The Prism Ultra Purple switches are linear with a light 42g actuation force, the Arctic Ultra Blue switches offer tactile feedback with 56g actuation force, and the Luna Pro series (Silver, Warm Silver, Black) provide a smooth linear feel with 45g actuation force. All switches feature durable POM or POK stems and housings designed for longevity.
