!Product Description
The Royal Kludge S98ES is a compact 96-key mechanical keyboard designed for users who want flexible wireless connectivity and easy switch customization. It suits hobbyists who frequently swap switches, and users needing a versatile keyboard for both work and casual use. Its triple connection options and customizable RGB controls offer adaptability, while a large battery supports extended wireless use.
Key Features
- Triple connectivity via Bluetooth 5.0, 2.4 GHz wireless, and USB-C cable, allowing seamless switching between devices or connection types.
- Hot-swappable switches enable users to change switches without soldering, supporting personalized typing feel and sound.
- Customizable RGB lighting with a multifunction knob and display offers quick access to lighting adjustments and other controls.
- Large 3750 mAh battery supports long usage periods without frequent recharging.
- Includes a USB passthrough port and a dongle slot for 2.4 GHz wireless, enhancing peripheral connectivity and convenience.
Typing Experience
The keyboard uses lubricated stabilizers designed to reduce noise and key wobble, contributing to a quieter and more stable typing experience. Hot-swappable switches allow users to tailor key feel and sound to their preference, which benefits both typists and gamers.
Connectivity
The S98ES supports three connection modes. Bluetooth 5.0 is suitable for mobile devices and low-power use, 2.4 GHz wireless offers a stable connection for desktops or gaming, and USB-C provides a wired option when low latency or charging is needed. Switching between modes is straightforward, making it adaptable to different environments.
Trade-offs
- The compact 96-key layout sacrifices a dedicated number pad, which may be less ideal for users who frequently input numbers.
- Unknown details on case material and mounting style limit assessment of long-term durability and typing feel.
- Software support exists for DIY customization, but compatibility and ease of use are not specified.
