Product Description

The Kailh BCP is a linear mechanical switch suited for users who want a smooth, consistent keypress with moderate resistance. It fits typists and gamers who prefer a clacky sound and a slightly longer travel distance than typical linear switches. It is not designed for quiet environments or those seeking tactile or clicky feedback.

Feel and Sound

  • Linear feel with no tactile bump or click, offering smooth keypresses.
  • Produces a clacky sound, which may be noticeable in quiet settings.
  • Less scratchy than the original Black Cherry Pie variant, contributing to a cleaner typing experience.

Actuation Characteristics

  • Moderate actuation force of 52g provides balanced resistance suitable for both typing and gaming.
  • Short pre-travel of 1.4mm allows for responsive key activation.
  • Total travel of 3.5mm is longer than many linear switches, which may affect typing speed and bottom-out feel.
  • Bottom-out force is higher than actuation force, giving a solid keypress without being overly stiff.

Build Quality

  • Top and bottom housings made from nylon PA66, a durable material that reduces friction and wear.
  • Off-white POM stem, known for smooth sliding and reduced scratchiness.
  • Single-stage 20mm spring factory lubed to improve smoothness and reduce noise from spring ping (spring vibration noise).
  • Thickened bottom housing enhances stability and reduces wobble (side-to-side stem movement).

Compatibility and Modifications

  • PCB mount with 5 pins, compatible with most standard mechanical keyboard PCBs.
  • Supports single LED lighting but does not support hot-swap or plate mount without modification.
  • Factory lubrication improves smoothness, but additional lubing may further reduce noise and scratchiness.

Trade-offs

  • Not silent, so less suitable for noise-sensitive environments.
  • Longer travel distance may slow down rapid key presses for some users.
  • Does not use original Cherry or H1 housings, which may affect compatibility with some aftermarket parts.
