Product Description

UniKeys Wingtree Watermelon is a factory-lubed, MX-style tactile switch for typists who want tactile feedback with a clacky sound. It may suit users who enjoy some scratchiness in the keystroke, but it is less suitable for quiet environments or anyone seeking a smooth, subdued feel.

Feel and sound

The tactile design gives feedback as you press, while the vendor describes the sound as clacky and the feel as scratchy. That makes it a more characterful choice than a quiet, smooth switch, but the exact bump strength and sound level in your keyboard are unknown. Factory lubrication can help reduce friction, though it does not guarantee a scratch-free feel.

Press and travel

The actuation force is 50 gf, with 60 gf needed to bottom out. In practice, this calls for a deliberate press rather than an especially light touch. Its 2.6 mm pre-travel means the switch actuates before reaching the end of its 4 mm travel, leaving movement after the key registers. Whether that suits fast or sustained typing depends on your preference for force and travel.

Build and compatibility

A POM stem and glass-fiber-reinforced PA66 housings define its construction. The five-pin MX-style format suits boards designed for that switch type. Check your PCB’s pin compatibility before choosing it. Details about LED behavior and spring noise are unknown.

Trade-offs

  • Consider it if you want tactile feedback and do not mind a clacky, somewhat scratchy character.
  • Look elsewhere if you prioritize quiet operation or a consistently smooth keystroke.
