Product Description

The Redragon CHIMERA K550 French Only is a wired mechanical keyboard designed for users who want programmable macros and tactile feedback in a French AZERTY layout. It suits gamers and productivity users who benefit from dedicated macro keys and multimedia controls without needing extra software for basic setup. Its custom purple switches provide a distinct tactile feel with moderate actuation force, making it suitable for precise typing and gaming.

Key Features

  • 12 dedicated macro keys (G1-G12) programmable without additional software, allowing quick execution of complex commands.
  • Dedicated multimedia controls and a volume wheel enable easy media management without interrupting workflow or gameplay.
  • Integrated USB pass-through port offers convenient connection for peripherals like mice or wireless receivers.
  • Supported by Redragon software for advanced customization of lighting effects, macros, and key remapping.

Build Quality

The keyboard features a brushed aluminum top plate that adds stability and a solid feel during use. This construction supports consistent keypresses and durability for extended sessions.

Typing Experience

Equipped with custom purple switches requiring 55 g actuation force and 1.1 mm pre-travel, the keyboard delivers a tactile and audible feedback. This switch type balances responsiveness and precision, suitable for users who prefer noticeable keypress confirmation without excessive noise.

Compatibility and Layout

This model uses a French AZERTY layout, limiting its suitability to users comfortable with this configuration. It connects via USB and is compatible with major operating systems. The included software allows for firmware updates and key customization.

Trade-offs

  • French-only layout restricts usability for non-French speakers or those needing other layouts.
  • Requires wired connection, so it lacks wireless flexibility.
  • While macros can be programmed without software, full customization requires installing Redragon’s software.
