!Product Description
The Varmilo APT108 Beijing Opera is a full-size mechanical keyboard designed for users who want versatile connectivity and easy switch customization. It suits typists and general users who value a traditional layout with added wireless options and the ability to swap switches without soldering. Its programmable features and multimedia keys support productivity, while its sound absorption and PBT keycaps enhance typing comfort.
Key Features
- Full-size ANSI layout with 108 keys, including four extra keys, supports standard typing and extended functionality.
- Hotswap PCB allows users to change switches without soldering, enabling easy customization and experimentation.
- Programmable via Varmilo’s web application, offering preset multimedia key combinations for quick access to common functions.
- Three connection modes: wired USB-C, Bluetooth 5.1, and 2.4 GHz wireless, providing flexibility for different environments.
- Polling rates vary by connection: 1000 Hz wired for responsiveness, lower rates on wireless modes may affect input speed.
- Three-way cord channel allows cable routing from left, right, or center, helping manage desk setup.
Build and Typing Experience
- Plate-mounted switches with north-facing stems support a wide range of MX-compatible keycaps.
- Thick double-layer silicone sound absorption reduces typing noise for a quieter experience.
- Keycaps are thick dye-sublimated PBT, which resist shine and wear over time.
- Two-step adjustable kickstand offers typing angle customization for comfort.
Connectivity and Compatibility
- Connects via USB-C wired or wirelessly through Bluetooth 5.1 or 2.4 GHz, suitable for desktop or mobile use.
- Compatible with Windows, Mac, and Linux operating systems.
- No support for QMK or VIA firmware, limiting advanced custom keymapping options.
Trade-offs
- Wireless polling rates are lower than wired, which may impact responsiveness in fast-paced tasks.
- Lacks open-source firmware support, reducing flexibility for users wanting deep customization.
- North-facing switch stems may limit compatibility with some keycap profiles designed for south-facing stems.
