Product Description

The Varmilo APT108 Sea Melody is a full-size mechanical keyboard designed for users who want flexible connectivity and easy switch customization. It suits typists and hobbyists who value a solid build, quiet keypresses, and the ability to program keys without complex software. Its multiple connection options and hotswap capability make it a practical choice for those who switch between devices or prefer wireless use.

Key Features

Full-size layout with 108 keys plus 4 extra, supporting standard US QWERTY typing and multimedia controls.
Hotswap PCB allows users to change switches without soldering, enabling quick customization of typing feel.
Programmable via Varmilo’s web application, offering preset multimedia key combinations for convenience.
Three connection modes: wired USB-C, Bluetooth 5.1, and 2.4 GHz wireless, providing flexibility for different setups.
Polling rates vary by connection: 1000 Hz wired for responsiveness, lower rates on wireless modes which may affect input speed.

Build and Typing Experience

Plate-mounted switches with north-facing stems, compatible with most MX-style keycaps and stabilizers.
Keycaps made from thick Dye Sub PBT, which resist shine and wear over time, with a blue and white color scheme.
Double-layer silicone sound absorption reduces typing noise, making it quieter than typical mechanical keyboards.
Adjustable two-step kickstand allows users to set preferred typing angles for comfort.
Three-way cord channel lets the USB cable exit from left, right, or center, aiding desk cable management.

Connectivity

Wired USB-C connection offers the highest polling rate and lowest latency, suitable for tasks needing fast input.
Bluetooth 5.1 and 2.4 GHz wireless modes provide cable-free use but with lower polling rates, which may impact gaming or fast typing.
Switching between connection types is convenient, supporting multi-device workflows.

Compatibility and Customization

ANSI layout with US QWERTY logical layout supports Windows, Mac, and Linux operating systems.
Compatible with VIA software for key remapping, but not QMK, limiting deeper firmware customization.
Prebuilt assembly means no user assembly required, ready to use out of the box.

Trade-offs

Polling rates on wireless modes are lower than wired, which may affect responsiveness in fast-paced use.
North-facing switch stems may limit compatibility with some keycap sets designed for south-facing stems.
No QMK support restricts advanced firmware customization for users who prefer full control over layers and macros.
The keyboard is not low profile, which may not suit users seeking a slimmer typing experience.
