Product Description

The Varmilo VPT87 Moonlight is a tenkeyless mechanical keyboard suited for users who want a compact layout with versatile connectivity and easy switch customization. It fits well for office workers or hobbyists who value quiet or tactile typing options and need wireless or wired use. Its hot-swap PCB allows changing switches without soldering, supporting various Cherry MX and Kailh switch types.

Key Features

Hot-swap PCB enables quick switch replacement, allowing users to tailor typing feel without technical skills.
Three connection modes: wired USB-C, Bluetooth 5.1, and 2.4 GHz wireless, offering flexibility for different environments.
RGB backlighting provides customizable lighting effects, useful for low-light typing or aesthetic preference.
Preset multimedia key combinations simplify media control without dedicated keys.
Three-way cord channel allows cable routing from left, right, or center, helping desk organization.

Build Quality

Aluminum plate mount ensures stable switch installation and durability.
Double-layer silicone sound absorption reduces typing noise, improving acoustic comfort.
Thick dye-sub PBT keycaps resist shine and wear, maintaining texture over time.
ABS top and bottom materials balance weight and sturdiness.
Two-step adjustable kickstand offers typing angle customization.

Typing Experience

South-facing switch orientation reduces interference with certain keycap profiles and stabilizers.
Available switch options include tactile, linear, and silent variants, covering a range of typing preferences.
Sound absorption and PBT keycaps contribute to a quieter and more comfortable typing session.

Connectivity

Wired mode supports 1000 Hz polling rate, suitable for low-latency tasks like gaming.
Bluetooth 5.1 and 2.4 GHz wireless modes offer convenience but have lower polling rates (133 Hz and 250 Hz), which may affect responsiveness.
Multiple connection options allow easy switching between desktop and mobile use.

Compatibility

ANSI US QWERTY layout fits standard keycap sets and user expectations.
Compatible with Windows, Mac, and Linux systems for broad usability.
No QMK or VIA firmware support, limiting advanced key remapping or macro customization.

Trade-offs

Lower wireless polling rates may not satisfy users needing the fastest response times.
Absence of built-in audio or microphone ports limits multimedia integration.
No support for QMK or VIA reduces flexibility for users wanting deep firmware customization.
Tenkeyless layout omits a number pad, which may be less ideal for users relying on numeric input.
