Product Description

The Gopolar TaiChi GG86 is a tenkeyless mechanical keyboard suited for users who want a customizable, entry-level board with a unique layout and solid programmability. It fits those who prefer a larger TKL size with a 7u Tsangan/WKL spacebar layout and want to customize key functions through QMK or VIA firmware. This board works well for hobbyists or typists who value switch flexibility and a quieter typing experience due to its gasket mount design.

Key Features

Fully programmable with QMK and VIA, allowing extensive key remapping and macro creation.
Customizable OLED display for on-the-fly information or aesthetics.
Supports both 5-pin PCB-mounted and 3-pin plate-mounted MX-style switches, offering broad switch compatibility.
Uses SMD-LED compatible switches for improved backlight visibility.

Build Quality

Constructed with an all-ABS plastic case, which keeps weight moderate but may be less rigid than metal alternatives.
Screw-free design with silicon mute gasket mount, reducing typing noise and vibration for a quieter experience.
Includes an FR4 fiberglass plate, balancing durability and typing feel.
Due to the ABS material and size, slight case warping can occur but should be resolved when fully assembled.

Typing Experience

Gasket mount design softens keypress impact, lowering noise and improving comfort during long typing sessions.
Unlubed PCB-mounted screw-in stabilizers may produce moderate rattle, which can be addressed by user modification.
Supports a 7u Tsangan/WKL spacebar layout, which may affect keycap availability and user preference.

Compatibility

Supports US layout with 86 keys, including a non-standard spacebar size that limits some keycap options.
Compatible with QMK and VIA firmware, enabling advanced customization across multiple operating systems.
Connects via USB Type-C 2.0, providing reliable wired connectivity.

Trade-offs

The ABS case may warp slightly due to size and material, requiring careful assembly to avoid issues.
Only supports 7u Tsangan/WKL layout, which is less common and may limit keycap replacement choices.
Stabilizers come unlubed, which may require user effort to improve sound and feel.
No wireless connectivity options are available.
