Southpaw keyboard kits give you the flexibility to build a left-numpad board with your choice of switches and keycaps. Most kits include the case, PCB, and plate with the numpad positioned on the left. Hot-swappable PCBs are common, making assembly straightforward even for first-time builders.
A southpaw layout moves the numpad to the left, freeing up mouse space on the right side. This reduces shoulder strain for right-handed mouse users by keeping the mouse closer to the body's center. Left-handed users also benefit from having the numpad on their dominant side for faster number entry.
Gamers choose southpaw keyboards to maximize mouse movement area. With the numpad on the left, the right side of the desk is entirely free for large mouse pad sweeps. Some gamers also use the left-side numpad as programmable macro keys, accessible without taking their hand off the WASD cluster.
For left-handed data entry professionals, a southpaw keyboard puts the numpad where it's most accessible. This can significantly speed up number-heavy workflows in spreadsheets and accounting software. Right-handed users can also benefit by using the mouse with their right hand while entering numbers with their left simultaneously.
