VIA requires manufacturers to submit keyboard definitions to a central repository. Vial is a fork that stores definitions on the keyboard itself, so it works immediately without waiting for approval. Both offer similar graphical interfaces for key remapping. If your board supports Vial, it typically also works with VIA, giving you flexibility in which tool to use.
Getting Started with VIA
To start using VIA, visit the web-based VIA configurator or download the desktop app. Plug in your VIA-compatible keyboard, and the tool auto-detects it. Click any key to remap it, drag macros onto keys, or switch between layers. All changes save to the keyboard's onboard memory, so your configuration persists across any computer you connect to.
