BAIONLENJA Gehirn60

The Baionlenja Gehirn60 is a customizable 60% mechanical keyboard kit aimed at enthusiasts who build their own boards and want flexible layout options. It suits users comfortable sourcing switches, keycaps, and stabilizers separately. Its design supports various HHKB and WKL layouts, making it good for typists who prefer compact or slightly extended layouts with a solid, weighted feel.

Key Features

• Supports multiple layouts including 6U HHKB, 7U HHKB, WK, and WKL, allowing users to choose a preferred key arrangement.
• Includes multiple plate options compatible with MX, Wooting, and Venom PCBs, offering flexibility in switch and PCB choice.
• Top mount design with relief cuts enhances compatibility with MX, HE (Hall Effect), and EC (Electro-Capacitive) PCBs and influences sound and typing feel.
• Comes with inner and outer weights totaling 1.2kg unbuilt, providing a stable, solid typing platform.

Build Quality

• Constructed from 6063 aluminum, brass, and stainless steel, delivering durability and a premium weight.
• Top mount style allows straightforward assembly and modding compared to gasket or tray mounts.
• Typing angle of 9 degrees and front height of 17mm contribute to ergonomic positioning for extended use.
• Includes a carrying case and microfiber cloth, aiding transport and maintenance.

Typing Experience

• Top mount with metal weights creates a louder, more resonant sound profile, which may appeal to users who prefer audible feedback.
• Plate options affect typing feel and compatibility, so selecting the correct plate and PCB is essential for desired switch compatibility.

Compatibility

• Compatible with various PCBs but requires attention to layout and plate matching, especially for 6U HHKB or 7U WKL variants.
• USB-C extender addon is needed if using PCBs with on-board USB-C in the GH60 location, adding complexity for some users.
• Does not include switches, keycaps, or stabilizers, so users must source these separately.

Trade-offs

• Assembly requires experience with mechanical keyboard building and soldering if using non-hotswap PCBs.
• Sound profile is louder and less dampened, which may be less suitable for quiet office environments.
• Layout and plate compatibility require careful selection to avoid mismatches, adding complexity for beginners.
